Maria C. (Zimardo) Pondish

Maria C. Pondish, 89, of Nesquehoning , entered into eternal rest on Friday, November 30th, at Maple Shade Meadows, Nesquehoning, surrounded by her loving family.  She was the wife of George J. Pondish, and they had been married for 66 years.  Born in Palmerton, she was a daughter of the late Giacommo and Giovanna (Tessitore) Zimardo.  She was a Registered Nurse, graduating from the former Palmerton School of Nursing, and she then continued working at the Palmerton Hospital for many years before retiring.  She was of the Roman Catholic faith and was a former member of the former Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church in the New Columbus section of Nesquehoning.  Maria was a member of the Nesquehoning Woman’s Club, the Red Hat Society, the Panther Valley Golden Agers and the Community Choir.  She loved to garden, listen to music and was a very artistic person, was a “master baker” and a “true shopper”. 

Surviving in addition to her husband George are sons Christopher and wife Susan of Staten Island NY and John and wife Lorena of Allentown PA, daughters Georgia Young of Lehighton, Virginia, wife of Gerald Stanley of Phoenix AZ and Maria, wife of Brett Kreiter of Malvern PA.  Grandchildren Jessica Pondish, Nicholas Pondish, Mitchell Kreiter, Stephanie Kreiter, Melissa Malatak, Rebecca Miller, Ryan Stanley, Kira Stanley and great granddaughter Sophie Heffelfinger.  She was pre-deceased by brothers Paul Zimardo, Roy Zimardo and James Zimardo and by sisters Paulina Marino, Anna Rose, Jenny Serado and Rose Wagner.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, December 5th at 12:00 p.m. from the Bruce A. Nalesnik Funeral Home, 57 West Center St., Nesquehoning PA 18240, with the Rev. Allen Hoffa officiating.  Interment will be private.  Calling hours will be held on Wednesday morning from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  Online condolences may be expressed at www.nalesnikfh.com.  Services and arrangements are being provided by the Bruce A.
