James Nardozzi Obituary

James J. “Reds” Nardozzi, 91, of Nesquehoning, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, January 1st at St. Luke’s Miners Memorial Hospital in Coaldale.  He was the husband of Eleanor (Knappenberger) Nardozzi and they recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.  Born in Nesquehoning, he was the son of the late James and Mary (Mele) Nardozzi.  A 1945 graduate of the former Nesquehoning High School, he worked for many years for the former Hess’s and Bright’s Department Stores in various management positions.  He was also appointed as a Justice of the Peace for the Borough of Nesquehoning by then Governor William Scranton.   He was of the Catholic Faith and was a member of St. Joseph Parish of the Panther Valley in Summit Hill. Prior to that, he was an active member of the former Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church in the New Columbus section of Nesquehoning, presently known as The Shrine of St. Therese of Lisieux, where he served as a Lector and Eucharistic Minister and was the Treasurer of the Holy Name Society after it reorganized in 1987.  He was also a Past President of the Regional Union of Holy Name Societies of Carbon and Eastern Schuylkill Counties.  “Reds” as an active member of the community, serving as a Past-President of the former Nesquehoning Lions Club, a Past-President and Secretary and Charter member of the former Panther Valley Chapter of UNICO, and was appointed to the Board of Supervisors of Mauch Chunk Township by the late Honorable James C. McCready, Judge of Carbon County, where he was Secretary-Treasurer on the Board.  He also was a past Director of the Carbon-Schuylkill Industrial Development Corporation.

Surviving in addition to his wife Eleanor is a son James and wife Lorraine of Nesquehoning, a daughter Mary Ann, wife of Thomas Roeder of Schnecksville PA, Grandsons Jeffrey and wife Theresa Roeder, William Roeder and a great grandson Noah Roeder.  He was pre-deceased by brothers Louis, Michael, Daniel, Joseph and sisters Anna Derkosh, Emilie Turrano, Mary Nardozzi and Lucy Cook.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 5th at 12:00 p.m. at the Shrine of St. Theresa of Lisieux , 15 East Garibaldi Ave. Nesquehoning  PA, with Rev. Allen Hoffa Officiating. Interment will be held at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Nesquehoning PA.  A calling hour will be held in the church on Saturday morning from 10:45 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  Online condolences can be expressed at www.nalesnikfh.com.  Contributions may be made to the The Shrine of St. Theresa of Lisieux  c/o the Bruce A.
