Diane M. Whitehead 72, of 118 East Center St., Nesquehoning PA, entered into eternal rest on Friday, May 20th at Lehigh Valley Hospital Center in Allentown PA, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Rev. Edward E. Whitehead, who had died in 2012. Born in Cambridge MA, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Elsie (Crowley) Gillespie. Diane last worked in housekeeping at Maple Shade Meadows in Nesquehoning before retiring. She was a member of Meed's Memorial United Methodist in Nesquehoning and was very active in church affairs, serving as President of the Community Dinner Club, a member of the Circle "B" Ladies Auxiliary, was Past President of the Administrative Board of the Church, and was a Past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star. Diane was also a longtime member of the Nesquehoning Ambulance Association, volunteering for many years as a driver.
Surviving are sons Edward Jr. and wife Cindy of Lehighton, Wayne of Phoenix AZ, Walter of Nesquehoning, daughters Diane, wife of Glenn Schnell of Lehighton and Sherry Whitehead, also of Lehighton, a brother Joseph Gillespie of MA, sisters Sandy, wife of James Gibner of Dunkirk NY, Donna Gillespie of ME, Debbie, wife of Austin Knight of ME, thirteen grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and close family friend Roxanne Craig of Bennington NH. She was pre-deceased by a brother Allen Gillespie.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, May 26th at 10:00 a.m. at Meeds Memorial United Methodist Church, 126 West Catawissa St., Nesquehoning PA, with the Rev. Michael Netznik and Rev. Kimberly Stubits-Leskowich officiating. Interment will be held at Sky-View Memorial Park, Hometown. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Order of the Eastern Star services will be held at 7:00 p.m.
