Janet R. Gilbert, 77, of 1018 North St., Jim Thorpe, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, March 24th, in her residence surrounded by her loving family.  She was the wife of the late Charles F. Gilbert Sr., who preceded her in death in 2013.  Born in Hazleton, she was a daughter of the late James and Ruth (Donald) Kishbaugh.  She was raised and grew up in Nesquehoning, graduating from the former Nesquehoning High School and went on to attend East Stroudsburg Teachers College, graduating with a teaching degree in English.  She then taught in South Carolina and returned to the area, residing in Jim Thorpe with her husband Charles in 1978.  She then worked for many years as a roving substitute teacher, working mostly for the Jim Thorpe and Panther Valley School Districts.  She was a member of Meed's United Methodist Church in Nesquehoning, where she was an active member in church activities and groups, and also serving a Choir Director for many years, as singing was something she enjoyed very much.

Surviving are sons Charles Jr. and wife Rebecca of Shavertown PA, James and wife Tammy of Lansford, a daughter Tara, wife of Benvenuto Cellini of Jim Thorpe, a sister Doris Jean Coniglio of Nesquehoning, grandchildren James McElmoyle, Daniel Gilbert, Thomas Romanchik Jr., Matthew Gilbert, Stephen Romanchik, Giavanna Cellini, Alivia Rose Cellini, Step Grandchildren Steven and Stephanie Steph, and a Great Grandson Connor McElmoyle.  She was pre-deceased by a Great Grandson Rowan McElmoyle.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, March 29th at 11:00 a.m. from the Bruce A. Nalesnik Funeral Home, 57 West Center St., Nesquehoning with the Rev. Kimberly Stubits-Leskowich officiating.  Interment will be held at Sky-View Memorial Park, Hometown.  Calling hours will be held on Monday evening from 6-8:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
