Joseph E. Matalone Jr., 87, of 117 East Columbus Ave., Nesquehoning, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, May 5 ^th at his residence.  Born in Nesquehoning, he was a son of the late Joseph E. and Elizabeth (DeAngelo) Matalone.  Joseph worked first in the Shipyards in Chester PA and then worked for many years on the assembly line at the General Motors Auto Assembly Plant in Delaware, retiring from there.

Joe was a life member of the New Columbus Fire Company and was very active over the years supporting the station.  He was a member and Past President of the West Penn Archery Club, and a social member of the Nesquehoning V.F.W.   He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed his many fishing trips to Canada over the years.  He was of the Catholic Faith and was a former member of the former Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church in the New Columbus section of Nesquehoning.  Surviving is a brother Michael and wife Margaret of Nesquehoning, and many nieces and nephews.  He was pre-deceased by Brothers Peter, Samuel, Angelo and Frank, and Sisters Deka DeFrank, Philomena Arsena and Frances Garcia, and Step Brothers Nick Rizzo and Anthony Rizzo.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, May 8 ^th at 11:00 a.m. from the Bruce A. Nalesnik Funeral Home, 57 West Center St., Nesquehoning PA, with the Rev. Francis P. Schoenauer Officiating.  Interment will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in the New Columbus section of Nesquehoning.  A calling hour will be held on Friday morning from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the Funeral Home.  Contributions may be made to the New Columbus Fire Company, c/o the Funeral Home.  Online condolences may be made at www.nalesnikfh.com .
