Josephine C. Sauka, 92, of Maple Shade Meadows in Nesquehoning, and formerly of the New Columbus section of Nesquehoning, entered into eternal rest surrounded by her loving family on Sunday at Maple Shade Meadows. She was the wife of the late John Sauka, who passed away in 2002. Born in Nesquehoning, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Coville) Ficarino. She worked as a sewer in various garment factories in the area for many years before retiring. She was a member of St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church in Nesquehoning, and was also a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union (ILGWU), and loved to cook for her family. Surviving are sons James J. and wife Mary Frances of Nesquehoning, Gary and wife Sherri of Nazareth, a brother Anthony Ficarino and wife Joan of Tamaqua, grandson Mark Sauka and wife Patty, granddaughter Marie Kimcaid and husband Brent, grandson James Sauka and wife Jessica, and granddaughters Maureen and Jolynn Sauka, and seven great grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by brothers Dominic Ficarino and Paul Collura, and sisters Pauline Serado and Elizabeth Stefonick.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. from the Bruce A. Nalesnik Funeral Home, 57 West Center St., Nesquehoning PA, followed by a Divine Liturgy at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church, 141 West High St., Nesquehoning, with the Rev. Dr. Vasyl Chepelskyy Officiating. Interment will be held at Sky-View Memorial Park Hometown. A calling hour will be held on Wednesday morning from 9:00-10:00 a.m. at the Funeral Home.
