Obituary

Larry I. Butz, 85, of Macungie, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 13th at Quakertown Manor, Quakertown.  He was the husband of the late Joan K. (Schnaitman) Butz, who died in 2017.  They were married on May 5, 1962, and enjoyed 55 years of marriage. Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Solomon and Lillian (Graver) Butz.  He was a member of St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church in Allentown.

Larry graduated from Allen High School in 1957. He served honorably in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1959 to 1965, achieving the rank of Corporal. He worked at General Acceptance Corporation (GAC) as a purchasing agent, which brought his family to live in Miami, Florida, for three years. Upon returning to Pennsylvania, he was a foreman supervisor for twenty years at Mack Trucks before semi-retiring in 1999. Larry enjoyed fishing and often took his children and their friends fishing in the Little Lehigh. He coached baseball and softball for his son's and daughter's East Penn Youth Leagues. He was an avid tennis player, playing tennis well into his 70s. Larry was loved by his family and had many wonderful friends. He was an "adopted" parent for many of his children's friends, always making them feel at home.

He is survived by a son, Matthew Butz, and his companion, Tonia Wellington of Macungie, a daughter, Monica James, and husband, Michael of Macungie, grandchildren Dalton and Savanna Butz and Brock and Jack McElhenney, and a step-granddaughter, Lindsey James.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, June 19th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church in Allentown.  Interment will be private.  Friends and family are invited to pay their respects and celebrate Larry's life during a visitation hour at the church from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., prior to the Mass.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.   Online condolences may be expressed at www.nalesnikfh.com.  Services and arrangements have been placed in the care of the Bruce A.
