Obituary

Richard C. Steidle, 89, of Jim Thorpe, entered into eternal rest on Monday, December 29th in Jim Thorpe. He was the husband of the late Phyllis (Nalesnik) Steidle, who passed away in 2017. Born in Jim Thorpe, he was a son of the late Frank and Emma (Yeck) Steidle. A graduate of East Mauch Chunk High School, he matriculated to Penn State attaining a degree in drafting. He then worked as a Supervisor in the drafting department at the New Jersey Zinc Company in Palmerton and following that worked for Mack Trucks as a Designer in the Vehicle Engineering Department before retiring. He was a U.S. Army veteran, achieving the rank of SP4, with one of his duty stations being in Greenland. He was a devoted member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Jim Thorpe. An active presence in the community, he served as a former Chairman of the Jim Thorpe Water Authority and was a member of the Jim Thorpe American Legion Post #304.

Rich was a devoted husband and father, guided by his Catholic faith and grounded in kindness, humility, and love. He had a quiet strength and a selfless way about him, always thinking of others before himself. He cherished life’s simple pleasures like his 2am wake up kisses from his grand dog Charlie, watching the deer and the bear from the window, breakfast at the East Mauch Chunk Eatery, and laughing with the staff at Mauch Chunk Pharmacy. He valued time with family, good conversation, and the thrill of a Philadelphia sports win. His quick wit and sense of humor seasoned with age, oftentimes laughing so hard he could barely speak. Above all, he made those around him feel supported, appreciated, and deeply loved.

Surviving are sons David J. Steidle and companion Tracey Fertally of Jim Thorpe, John M. (Jack) Steidle and wife Amanda of Chicago IL, William J. Steidle of Albany NY, and grandchildren Derek Steidle, Reilly Steidle and Jake Steidle. He was predeceased by brothers James Steidle, Bertram Steidle and Gerald Steidle.
